Shepherd Moons

H.W. GADE

Henrik with his son Lukas 2006

The founder of Shepherd Moons, Henrik W. Gade, was born in 1953 in Copenhagen, Denmark. He has a lot of strange talents including writing songs, musicals/operas and classical music, writing handbooks and being a graphic artist. He has been playing the guitar and the piano since 1967, moving to the bass guitar in 1970.

Beside Shepherd Moons, Henrik’s most prominent “other” bands are the rock bands Der Prozess (1970-74), Nekropolis (1975-78), the folk rock band Annas Bagmænd (1983-87) and the jazz band Dirty Notes (1988-92). He has released 20 albums and singles with the bands and solo. As a dramatist, Henrik has written 8 musicals, including the hugely successful rock opera “Stolen Springs”. He has written handbooks on Music Theory, the bass guitar and mental handicaps. Bands like R.E.M., the Who, Björk, the Kinks and Nirvana are among Henrik’s favourites. And he is very inspired by Swedish, German and French folk ballads, too. Henrik plays a 1998 Yamaha 5-string bass, a 2001 Squire Stratocaster, a 12-string acoustic Fender and a Les Paul copy.

Henrik is married to Finnish Paula and is the loving father of his mentally handicapped son Lukas. The songs Football, Merry-go-round, Black Car, Sweet Child and Into the Sorrow are about Lukas.
